An Opportunity To Create Something Truly Special

There is a very unique opportunity for a seasoned green thumb to create the region’s best multi-use flower and produce garden. Osteria Restaurant has a kitchen garden established plants, hedges and flowers already but we are looking for someone to take it to the next level and create the best garden in our region.

The role will require someone that has experience in growing produce as we look to dramatically increase the supply of quality and tasty food into our restaurant kitchen. An ability to manage multiple garden beds and create different soil profiles to support a variety of different foods is paramount. Great food starts with great produce.

We are also planning to dramatically increase our plantings of flowers, shrubs, trees and climbers as we attempt to create a garden wonderland that attracts visitors form far and wide. Resources and support will be in abundance as we develop our garden plan. Think big as we are only interested in a truly magical outcome!

Other points to note; we have a well stock compost heap supported by the organic produce being delivered directly from our kitchen; worm farms are active and can be expanded; on-site work shed and a wide variety of equipment is available; more than an acre of grounds to play with; impending investment in infrastructure and more gardens is imminent; you will have a direct relationship with the kitchen to ensure food production is effective year round; a soon to be established chook pen will supply fertiliser and eggs to the venue; we will install fully function automated irrigation where ever possible; we have an onsite propagation space; we will soon install spear pumps and water tanks to reduce our footprint; there is so much more to tell but as you will see, this is an exciting opportunity for the right person.

What we need; the successful applicant will be fit and capable; will not be afraid of heights (must use ladders), will be available to work at least 25 hours per week, will have extensive experience in food and flower gardens, will take ownership for the role and work at the items necessary for the garden to flourish, will work within budget and at the direction of the General Manager, and will liaise once a week with the managers to plan the spaces and food production program. They must be able to plan gardens around our location, soil types and conditions. An understanding of our surroundings and what is suitable to plant is paramount.

Pay rate is negotiable and available in casual, part-time or permanent. Hours are flexible and can be negotiated to fit the needs of the garden and the successful applicant. The opportunity to also manage other venue gardens (not to this scale) is available to boost hours if desired. Excellent conditions, support, training and environment.
